I do not present a model of reality but instead a way of generating realities. Not a set of answers, but a set of parametric generators. The purpose is to predict and explain the behavior of real-world systems across time, scale, and domain.

Grounded in mathematics, physics, and information theory, the model is not a philosophical metaphor. Built from first principles and from those principles, it generates realities as a dynamic computation. The generated reality is stochastic, emergent, information rich and perpetually generating itself. No reality is a fixed strucutre nor intended to represent any sort of underlying reality. It is just a model of reality with the sole purpose of making workable predictions.

The purpose of this interview was for me to reach out and associate with a person who is deaf. I did not have to reach too far. I think the point of an interview is to get to know someone. I have known Helen Dalton for two years, however my interview enabled me to get to know her better. In interviewing Helen many of my previous thoughts and impressions were confirmed. I also chose to interview Helen because there are many things I have wondered about concerning her, her family, and what it was like for her growing up. It was nice to learn this information. I find that by learning about the people with whom you associate communication is a lot easier and more comfortable.

Stoicism

I am a Stoic, especially in the tradition of Epicetetus. I was a Stoic before I was introduced to these works and reviewing the thoughts of many of the Stoics has made this very clear to me. I use the words of the Stoics and naturally engage in many of the practices.

My Mom was Helen Dalton. She was a social butterfly and loved being around and with people. One of her phrases was “Its a small world”, meaning people interconnected. I think that she and I are very different people, with drastically different world views. She put up and loved me when I was my absolute worst. That is what I have learned from Helen, –unconditional love. She did not practice it with everyone but it would be important for me to at least express a base of unconditional love and respect for others.

The word atheist is defined in relation to gods. I prefer the phrase “not slave to superstitions” of which belief in gods is but one of many that must be suppressed. There are natural tendencies in humans to be superstition and so suppression must be an active process.

Christians are slaves to superstition. Both conspiracy theories and gods fall under the umbrella of superstition.

Discernment of cause

Are we good at discerning the truth of our reality? I would like to say, ‘yes, yes we are’ but I fear that we really are not very good at discerning our reality. If you are asked, ‘What causes the wind?, the tides?, the sunrise?, or fire?’ you might be able to give a reasonably accurate answer. None of those answers is directly obvious in itself. Your ability to correctly answer any of those questions depends upon a chain of knowledge that certainly was not available to our long-ago ancestors.

Why do we have government?

Basically governments exist to organize. A basic family group has it own organization that is not formalized. As we move from a single family group to a tribe of families and then to a organization of many tribes; we see the need to formalize structure to reduce internal conflict and to meet objectives.

What types of objectives would these groupings wish to achieve? I think it is best to start with basic survival. Generally, this will include: food extraction, food cultivation, resource extraction, resource distribution, self-defense, resource acquisition, and dispute mediation. Especially note that the last three items often include the use of force. In the modern world, some of these objectives are not performed by a government but instead by various legal structures from sole proprietor to multi-national corporation.

Conceptualizing Context mathematically is a critical step in making a model rigorous. Considering it as either a field or as a super-object are two excellent and mathematically robust approaches. They aren’t mutually exclusive and each captures a different essential aspect of what “context” means.

Civilization as a Complex Adaptive System

Traditional political science and economics often evaluate the success of human systems through the lens of morality, ideology, or static financial metrics like GDP. While these measures provide a snapshot of current output, they fail to explain the underlying mechanics of systemic survival. They treat a nation as a ledger rather than a Complex Adaptive System (CAS).

This article proposes a departure from normative critique, moving instead toward a Complex Adaptive Systems approach. We posit that a society is a physical entity—a dissipative structure that maintains order by processing energy and information. To understand why some systems thrive while others stagnate or collapse, we must look at the physical phase states they occupy.

DEFINITION Exploitation means to use some resource for advantage, benefit, or profit.

Introduction

Lately, I started using a model of “humans as an exploitation machine” to analyze or gain a different perspective on our world. The definition alone does not imply good or bad but we have many contexts of this word which have very negative associations.

Some contexts:

Social: exploitation often refers to the unfair treatment or abuse of power towards individuals or groups with less power, resources, or agency.
Market economy: exploitation can take various forms, including labor, natural resources, intellectual property, and market.
Computer science: an exploit is a code that takes advantage of a software vulnerability or security flaw.
Military: exploit the initiative to gain a tactical or strategic advantage.

Considering “humans as an exploitation machine”, refers mainly to market exploitation which is neutral toward the ethics of exploitation. In the social context, which sometimes gets mixed into the market context, exploitation is clearly negative.

Most would argue that what’s true is true. That there does indeed exist an ultimate or quintessential underlying reality. But is this a valid understanding?

In my studies of mathematics, especially probability and statistics, we assume that there is a true parameter value. This is a fiction and is just a device for doing theory and developing methods. It allows us to theoretically show that some method to estimate it has some property which works better or worse. But overall the effect is to assume that something true exists that we then choose to model imperfectly.

It is important to practice good habits of the mind at all times. Why? When we are not actively practicing good habits, we may lazily fall into bad habits. Bad habits are formed of the aggregate of our lives mixed with the cement of our passions, heavily reinforced by repetition, and cured over long periods of time. Our bad habits are very hard to break, requiring the sturdy spike of iron will and regular strikes with the heavy hammer of our effort. They take time to form and time to break.

Grandma Porth taught me cards and other games. While I don’t really play many games now, the lessons of probability I learned from her teaching have remained. She was a world traveler who loved new experiences and cultures. Her dedication to community service and the well-being of all those around her set an excellent example.

Sometimes, she seemed the iron lady but I spent many, many hours with her and the ironess was only displayed when needed. I am glad that she mostly missed my lost years but wish she could she who I have become because I think she played a significant role in my life.

My Dad, Gary Dalton Jr. He struggled to find his identity and eventually paid the price for that struggle. From him, I learned the value of being open to the thoughts, ideas, opinions, and identities of others. He acknowledged to me that I do not have to think or believe others choices are correct but that I also do not have the right to use force to bring them to my idea of the correct. He demonstrated that good things may be accomplished by being oneself. He gave meticulous attention to detail and always was doing the best he could.

I recall a discussion we had regarding some political subject and, in frustration, I stated that you sounded like a communist. You calmly replied that I could call it whatever I wished but your ideas would stand on their own. You also demonstrated how to live a fulfilling life of labor and that this was a noble path.
